HeartMath: Education

“Fit for Life, Fit for Learning”

It has long been recognised that the learning of pupils and students is directly influenced by their personal and social well-being, and by their health and over-all emotional energy. The Every Child Matters framework articulates this, with its five outcomes of:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well being

Alongside this the Core Competencies for staff highlight the need for better understanding of:

Area 2: Child and young person development
Area 4: Supporting transitions

Hunter Kane has introduced a variety of programmes using the HeartMath System into schools and colleges across the country, from children as young as five through to students about to enter the University system. In doing so, we are responding to the E.C.M. and Core Competencies frameworks, with particular focus on emotional energy, lifting anxiety and stress and improving self-motivation and cognitive function.

This emphasis correctly identifies the direct link between a pupil’s ability to self-manage emotions, and academic performance. With emotional well being driving attention there is real benefit for this key mechanism on learning and memory.

In particular we have focussed on transition points, a time when young people often feel pressurised by the need to perform in a new setting, as well as on test and examination results including SATs, GCSE and A/ AS. Additionally, we have achieved significant impact on a range of students suffering from various Educational, Behavioural and Emotional difficulties. We have also worked with specialist organisations tasked with increasing youth employment, post education.
