The
Key Issues
Globalisation,
continuous restructuring, fewer management layers, smaller permanent
headcount, increased part time and contract employment and outsourcing
to third parties; strategies designed to improve efficiency and
reduce cost have resulted in an environment demanding continual
“stretch targets”
with reduced resources, increasing the likelihood of employees feeling
overwhelmed by unremitting demand and challenge. It has also had
an effect upon the perceived contract between company and workforce,
profoundly impacting individual careers and attitudes to the organisation.
Coping with
this reality, where traditional models of career planning and personal
development cease to apply, requires a radically different approach.
The assumption of security of employment and structured progression
have become obsolete in a rapidly changing world, resulting in the
need for organisations and individuals to work together to ensure
the sustained development of the skills, knowledge and behaviours
essential to both business and personal success.
Accommodating
this presents both problems and opportunities. Many employees
remain psychologically or materially unprepared and inevitably experience
anxiety due to uncertainty, possibly resulting in low morale and
impaired productivity as well as the potential impact on health
and well-being. For some, planning for an uncertain future can
represent an exercise in futility. However, it also presents an
opportunity to work in new and challenging ways, with greater flexibility
and increased opportunities for individual and organisational growth.

The
Way Forward
For
the employer - to match the personal and career
aspirations and development of employees with business needs and
objectives and by doing so, build an enhanced mature relationship,
ensuring the retention of a committed, loyal, motivated, creative
and highly developed workforce.
For
the employee - to be conscious of their needs, wants
and value add and recognise how to manage, promote and develop this,
whilst at the same time, defining and implementing plans to ensure
the personal development essential to guaranteeing success in a
constantly evolving business and market.
Critical
to business success is the motivation, retention and development
of key personnel .
Ensuring both sides align and achieve their objectives requires
not only employee motivation but also the fostering of an environment
that provides tools and support to enable each person to take ‘control’
and demonstrate 'ownership'
for their Personal Development and Career Management.

The
Solution
Using a series
of proven interventions designed to assist with a journey
of ‘self discovery’,
our programmes are pragmatic and build on the principles
that as individuals:
- we only move forward effectively with ‘insight’
, and the awareness to enable successful planning
of both short and long term development in practical and effective
ways.
- we must recognise what we want and why, and then
align these
with both our life and career.
- it is essential to appreciate and then demonstrate
our value add .
To do this, we must understand the range and diversity of our
talents and
experiences, and be able to clearly understand and demonstrate
how they can be best utilised.
- it is our responsibility to build our skills,
knowledge and experiences in order to maximise
our personal
effectiveness now and in the future.
- we must have strategies
for maintaining personal
performance, resilience and motivation.

Our programmes
enable each person to gain a clear view of his or her “big
picture” through creating a Map
of Personal Preferences. This is then used to
create a personal ‘Vision’
and determine ‘Planning and Self
Marketing’ activities. All programmes:
- include comprehensive tools that enable self-discovery,
self-awareness, and the knowledge to identify the way forward
and plan to successfully achieve it.
- include comprehensive documentation in the form
of workbooks for individuals and where required, manuals for coaches
/ HR professionals.
- can be augmented by Coaching / Mentoring for ongoing
career planning and development support.
- allow for integration of existing organisational
tools and approaches.
